Local MP calls on government to support town deal bid

Marie Rimmer MP has called on the government to support St Helens’ town deal for £38.55m.

During her speech, Ms Rimmer emphasised how the past decade of austerity had been tough for the town. Ms Rimmer added that the impact of coronavirus “has thrown a brick through an already shattered window.”

The remarks were made during a debate in Parliament about the fund.

During the speech, Ms Rimmer highlighted the importance of securing high skill, good paying jobs for the borough.

The centrepiece of St Helens’ bid is Glass Futures. A research and development facility that will bridge the gap of implementation.
