Marie speaks on type 1 diabetes diagnosis

On 10th March, Marie spoke in Westminster Hall about the importance of early testing for Type 1 diabetes in children.

She shared the story of Gracie, a young girl from Newton-le-Willows, who was rushed to hospital at just one year old with undiagnosed Type 1 diabetes. Doctors later told her parents she had been only minutes away from losing her life.

Thankfully Gracie survived and is now thriving, but too many families are not so fortunate. Early detection can save lives, prevent trauma for families, and ensure children receive the treatment they need sooner.

Marie stated “We must continue working towards a future where routine testing helps identify Type 1 diabetes earlier and protects more children and families.

I would like to thank not only Gracie’s parents for sharing their story with me, but with the hundreds in our constituency who signed the petition to get this to Parliament for debate.”
