Marie Rimmer was one of four recipients of the Freedom of the Borough announced at the Borough of Culture launch event alongside Saints star James Roby, World Darts Champion Michael Smith and The Duke of Lancaster Regiment.
Marie said: “It has been an honour and a privilege to serve the people of my hometown. I am proud to be born in St Helens and I am proud to represent us.
“I am overwhelmed to receive this honour at the same time as two world champions. Michael and James have helped to put St Helens on the map and they have shown we are a town that always punches above its weight.
“Over the last 45 years I have worked with so many fantastic people, some of which are unfortunately no longer with us. Everything I have achieved has only been possible with their support and the support of the great people of St Helens. A big lesson from growing up in St Helens is that we always look out for each other. We understand the importance of community spirit. We know that by working together we can get through tough times. Long may it continue.”
